We have learned through our sources that Samsung intends to bring its TV Plus free streaming service to mobile devices. The company is developing the mobile app to deliver the same functionality available on compatible Smart TVs.
Samsung TV Plus was introduced last year as the company’s free-of-charge streaming service. It is available exclusively through its Smart TVs released in 2016 and later. So far, the company made no mention of a mobile release; however, our sources tell us that the mobile app is now in development.
It may be a Galaxy device exclusive
While any additional information regarding compatibility and availability is not yet known, we suspect the Samsung TV Plus mobile app will be available exclusively for Galaxy devices. After all, Samsung TV Plus is only compatible with the company’s range of Smart TVs and can’t be accessed on TV models from other brands. It’s one of the company’s exclusive features that give it a leg up on the competition.
Similarly, Samsung TV Plus for mobile is likely intended exclusively for Galaxy smartphones (and possibly tablets), but this is just an educated guess based on the company’s handling of the platform thus far. Its more recent tablets including the Galaxy Tab S6 Lite have a slight focus on multimedia experiences, and the addition of TV Plus would seem fitting for the format. Likewise, Samsung’s new flagship smartphones – particularly the Galaxy S20 Ultra – have generous displays fit for a mobile movie-watching experience.
Samsung TV Plus for mobile will offer the same functionality as the service does on Samsung Smart TVs. Users will be able to watch Live channels immediately upon launching the app and they will also be able to access VOD content.
As yet, we don’t have any concrete details regarding a potential release date, but we’ll keep you updated as soon as we learn more.
