Samsung releases fold test video to underscore Galaxy Fold’s durability

With the Galaxy Fold priced at 2,000 euro, customers would certainly want the device to be durable. They may have some concerns given the new form factor that this device has. It’s Samsung’s first foldable smartphone after all.

The Galaxy Fold has an in-folding display with a proprietary hinge. Samsung claims that the Galaxy Fold holds up well for 200,000 folds. That’s 100 folds per day for five years, much longer than people keep their smartphones for. The company has now released a video of its fold test to drive home the point about its durability.

Galaxy Fold will be more durable than Huawei’s foldable phone

The short video, set to some upbeat music, shows a contraption that Samsung created to basically open and close the Galaxy Fold over and over again. We can see multiple units hooked up to the machine that are repeatedly being folded. That’s certainly one of the best ways to get a proper estimation of how long the device can survive.

It takes about a week for the machine to complete the 200,000 folds, a number that Samsung feels comfortable backing for durability. The Galaxy Fold will be better than Huawei’s foldable smartphone in this regard. Huawei rates its device for 100,000 folds.

Samsung is obviously revealed more information about the Galaxy Fold now as it gears up to launch the device. Its first foldable smartphone will be out in the United States on April 26. It will begin taking pre-orders in Europe on that day before releasing the device in 15 countries on May 3.
