Galaxy Home launch due in April, says Samsung CEO

Many Samsung fans have been wondering about the Galaxy Home launch. Samsung showed off its Bixby-powered smart speaker last year but has not revealed much about it since then. We didn’t hear much about it at SDC 2018 in November or at CES 2019. Samsung didn’t mention it on stage during its Galaxy S10 event today.

However, Samsung’s mobile boss DJ Koh did answer a question related to the Galaxy Home launch in an interview. He confirmed that the device is going to be out by April this year.

Samsung Mobile CEO sheds light on Galaxy Home launch

It has been a while since we have been waiting for the Galaxy Home. It was originally shown off at the Galaxy Note 9 launch event in August last year. Samsung hasn’t revealed a lot more about this device since then.

Koh told CNET following the Unpacked event in San Francisco today that the Galaxy Home speaker is going to be launched in April. He didn’t provide any specifics so it’s not exactly clear precisely when the smart speaker is going to be released. At least we have a target month now.

We have since reported exclusively that Samsung is working on a second Galaxy Home smart speaker. Our information reveals that the new Bixby speaker will be a toned down version of the original product. This would make sense as the original Galaxy Home is more of a premium product which will take on the likes of the Apple HomePod. This new Bixby speaker will be more competitive against the Amazon Echos of the world.

Samsung is yet to acknowledge the second Bixby speaker, though. It hasn’t even confirmed the pricing for the Galaxy Home. Hopefully, it will be more forthcoming with the information in the near future.
