Galaxy A50 beats costlier Samsung phones in race for October security update

Samsung already pushed the October security update for some of flagships while we were still in September, and it’s now bringing mid-range devices into the mix. The Galaxy A50 has become the first mid-range phone from Samsung to get the latest security update, edging out many costlier Galaxy phones.

The Galaxy A50 is picking up a new update with firmware version A505GUBS9CUI3 in Colombia, Bolivia, and the Dominican Republic. More countries will likely get the update soon, though the rollout may not be too quick considering the Galaxy A50 is now over two years old and barely the focus of Samsung’s software support efforts.

Other than the security fixes packaged in the October security patch, which Samsung hasn’t detailed yet, the latest Galaxy A50 update brings no changes or improvements. For those who haven’t been keeping up, the Galaxy A50 will continue to get only security patches going forward, as it has completed its quota of major Android and One UI upgrades. Of course, security updates are as important as anything else these days, and the Galaxy A50 still has some ways to go before it stops receiving them regularly.

If you own a Galaxy A50, you can check if there’s a new update available by opening the phone’s Settings app, selecting Software update, and tapping Download and install. The latest firmware is also available from our archive if you wish to upgrade your phone manually – just be sure to match your device model and region before attempting to do so.
