Samsung’s new Massive MIMO Radio is a one-box solution for 5G networks

Samsung is one of the largest networking equipment vendors in the world. The company achieved this status by staying on top of the latest technologies and providing cost-effective solutions at scale. And today, Samsung announced a new Massive MIMO radio capable of combining C-Band and CRBS bands into a single unit.

The C-Band/CRBS Dual-band 16T16R Massive MIMO Radio is a one-box solution that Samsung claims will allow operators to add support for two mid-band spectrums with more ease. The C-Band spectrum is meant to boost 5G capabilities, access, and coverage, while the CBRS band can bring 5G to enterprise networks and underserved areas.

The module weighs approximately 30lbs (14kg) and features the in-house Massive MIMO 5G chipset that Samsung unveiled earlier this year. It promises 70% higher energy efficiency compared to Samsung’s previous solutions.

As for the benefits of having a one-box solution, they are plenty. Most importantly, an all-in-one box allows operators to reduce their footprint, lower energy consumption, and ultimately cut down on installation and operation costs. According to Samsung, the C-Band/CBRS Dual-band 16T16R Massive MIMO Radio will be available commercially in North America in the second half of 2022.
