Here it comes, folks, the first Oreo update for an existing device based on Android 8.1. The Galaxy J5 (2017) Oreo update is rolling out in Poland at the moment, with the August 2018 security patch in tow and Android 8.1 as the OS version. This comes a few weeks after Samsung updated the Galaxy J3 (2017) to Android 8.0 Oreo. Coincidentally, today is also the day Samsung unveiled its first Android Go smartphone, which runs Android 8.1 Oreo but is designed to be more efficient on the low-end hardware.
Galaxy J5 (2017) Android 8.1 Oreo update released
The software version for the J5 (2017)’s Oreo update is J530FXXU2BRH5 and the firmware is available from our database for those in Poland interested in immediately making the jump to Android 8.1 Oreo. It may also be available over the air, which you can confirm by tapping the Download updates manually option in the Software update menu of the phone’s Settings app. It remains to be seen when the Galaxy J7 (2017) will start receiving Oreo and also whether it will be updated to version 8.1 or 8.0. Current signs point to Android 8.1, and one can only hope Samsung doesn’t leave the largest of its mainstream 2017 J series phones on an older version of the OS as it did with the 2016 version.
Have you received the Oreo update on your Galaxy J5 (2017)? Do tell us if you have by leaving a comment. Also tell us your country of residence in case the update is available for you outside Poland as well.
