Samsung unveiled the Galaxy J2 Core, its first Android Go smartphone, last week, with an initial launch in Malaysia and India. Now, the phone is actually available for purchase in the Indian market. The Galaxy J2 Core price in India is ₹6,190 (roughly $90) and the phone can be purchased in black, blue, and gold from Samsung’s online store and from retailers across the country.
Galaxy J2 Core competes with Samsung’s Tizen phones
The Galaxy J2 Core’s debut in India isn’t surprising, as Samsung has had a heavy focus on the country’s budget segment. The J2 Core is priced just slightly higher than the Samsung Z2, the company’s latest Tizen smartphone, but it’s clear Samsung isn’t exactly concerned about Tizen on smartphones anymore. The Galaxy J2 Core is a better deal since it runs Android, and while the phone comes with Go versions of many Google apps, there is nothing stopping users from installing regular apps and games from the Play Store.
The Galaxy J2 Core specs include a 5-inch qHD (960×540) LCD display (with software navigation keys), a 1.4GHz quad-core Exynos 7570 processor with Mali-T720 MP1 GPU, 1GB of RAM, 8GB of expandable storage (up to 256GB), an 8-megapixel rear camera with f/2.2 aperture, a 5-megapixel front camera (also f/2.2), dual SIM slots, 4G LTE connectivity, and a 2,600 mAh battery. It runs Android 8.1 Oreo out of the box, which is the minimum requirement for all Android Go smartphones. The phone comes with some storage and memory management tools for increased performance, including the option to directly install apps on a microSD card.
Look forward to our review of the Galaxy J2 Core in the coming weeks.
