The Galaxy Buds 2 will have a new, less convenient pairing process

The Samsung Galaxy Wearable app, which is what you use to connect all of the company’s earbuds and smartwatches to your phone, has been updated with a new blue-colored icon and references to Samsung’s upcoming new wearables. To be more precise, trying to connect a new device through the Galaxy Wearable app now mentions the Galaxy Buds 2, along with a new pairing process.

Samsung’s existing Galaxy Buds products can be put into pairing mode by putting them in the ears and touching and holding each earbud for three seconds. On the Galaxy Buds 2, the process will be a little less convenient: You will have to put the earbuds in the case and then tap and hold their touchpads for three seconds before they go into pairing mode.

It’s worth noting that all existing Galaxy Buds earbuds can also be paired to new devices by simply placing the earbuds in the charging case, closing it, and then opening the case back up (as long as they’ve been disconnected with the previous device they were paired with). This method will likely continue to work, though we can’t be sure at this time. Thankfully, it won’t be long before we find out, as we’re just about a week away from the Galaxy Buds 2’s official announcement.

The Galaxy Buds 2 will be joined by the Galaxy Watch 4 and Galaxy Watch 4 Classic, along with the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 3, at Samsung’s August 11th Unpacked event. Not that an event is needed at this point, considering everything has leaked extensively these past few weeks, but hey, Samsung has probably worked hard on planning the thing, so we’re ready to act all surprised when the company takes the virtual stage.
