Samsung today announced the launch of a new SmartThings home security system in partnership with professional home security company ADT. The product is a professionally monitored, self-installed life safety solution that’s powered by Samsung’s SmartThings platform.
The company says that combined with ADT’s unmatched professional monitoring, the Samsung SmartThings ADT home security system is “the safest, easiest, and most flexible DIY security and smart home solution available for families today.”
New SmartThings Home Security System
Inside the box, there’s a Home Security Starter Kit and Home Safety Expansion Pack. They provide users with the ability to create a safe and secure home. They can also grow their connected home ecosystem while all of it is backed by ADT’s professional monitoring with no long-term contract.
The base SmartThings home security system bundle costs $549.99. Aside from the Security Hub, it comes with two door and window detectors and one motion detector. It’s the Security Hub that doubles as a SmartThings hub for controlling other smart devices.
Samsung will sell additional sensors so that users can expand the system size as needed. Additional sensors for fire, water and carbon monoxide detection will be sold by the company.
The professional monitoring from ADT is optional. Customers can sign up for it within the app. They don’t need to make any phone calls or sign any contracts to get up and running. However, they will have to pay $14.99 per month for life safety and $24.99 for security services. They can cancel or activate the service at any time.
Despite the ADT partnership, this product is a DIY home security solution that customers have to buy and install on their own. Samsung’s new SmartThings home security system will be available for purchase at Best Buy and online come October 29.
