Leaked Galaxy Tab A8 (2021) specifications leave little to the imagination

Most of the recent leaks have been centred around Samsung’s high-end Galaxy Tab S8 series of tablets, which are slated to pack some serious firepower. Those on the lookout for slightly more affordable options will find solace in the Galaxy Tab A8 (2021).

A previous report showed us the tablet’s design but didn’t tell us much about its internals. A new leak from seasoned leaker @OnLeaks and 91mobiles sheds light on some key Galaxy Tab A8 (2021) specifications.

Galaxy Tab A8 (2021) specs have leaked online

For starters, the Galaxy Tab A8 (2021) will pack a 10.5-inch WUXGA (1920×1200) TFT panel clocked at 60Hz. An IPS LCD panel would have been ideal, but the compromise is understandable, given that it is a low-cost offering. Moving on to its innards, the Galaxy Tab A8 2021 will pack a slightly dated UNISOC Tiger T618 SoC.

The 12nm chipset packs two Cortex-A75 cores clocked at 2.0GHz, six Cortex-A55 cores at 1.6GHz, and an ARM Mali G52-MP2 GPU. Its performance is on par with the mid-range Qualcomm Snapdragon 660.

Other Galaxy Tab A8 (2021) specs include a 7,000mAh battery, an 8MP rear camera sensor and a 5MP selfie camera. There is no word about fast charging support, so we’re probably stuck with a 15W charger again. At least one variant of the tablet will offer 128GB of internal storage, although there’s no indication about how much RAM will accompany it.

Hardware-wise, the Galaxy Tab A8 (2021) is a bit too identical to its predecessor, the Galaxy Tab A7. Nothing seems to have changed, including its screen size, battery capacity and cameras. One could also consider the UNISOC chipset to be a bit of a downgrade, given the limited software support that comes with it.

Then again, Qualcomm probably isn’t making too many mid-range Snapdragon chipsets in these dark times, so Samsung has no choice but to stick with whatever is available. It’ll be interesting to see how much the Galaxy Tab A8 (2021) will cost, as it will largely determine its fate in the affordable tablet segment.

This time around, the competition is fiercer than ever thanks to the likes of the Realme Pad, so Samsung had to remain extra vigilant.
