Value lovers, unite: Galaxy A01 already receiving Android 11

Imagine buying the Galaxy A01 a year ago and getting the Android 11 upgrade ahead of the OnePlus 7T Pro. Pure value is what this little guy is, as it once again became evident these past few days. Namely, Samsung has already cleared the One UI build for the Galaxy A01 last week and the over-the-air upgrade has already been spotted in a number of Asian markets, as well as the still-Eurasian Russia.

We’re still waiting for confirmation of a truly global rollout, though one shouldn’t be too far away, at this point. The firmware in question is labeled as the release A015FXXU4BUD8 or A015GXXU4BUD8, depending on the exact model of the device.

Two more years of this, you say?

As has been the case for a couple of months by now, the Android 11-based distro now arriving to the Galaxy A01 happens to be One UI 3.1, not just 3.0. Though the extra bells and whistles between the two might not be terribly obvious on this budget-friendly smartphone. Oh, and the OS upgrade ships with the April 2021 security patch, but it’s likely that the May update is already being fast-tracked at Samsung.

Not that it was ever in doubt, but seeing Samsung’s promise of timely and consistent software updates for its whole mobile portfolio come to life is a truly surreal sight. Especially on this end of the price spectrum – the Galaxy A01 started at barely over a €100 early last year. It’s also one of the rare few entry-level devices that Samsung decided to import into the U.S. lately. Not that the two are necessarily connected beyond correlation; this is just a reminder of how ferociously competitive the mobile industry remains at every level.
