Samsung Galaxy Fold joins the May security update club

We’re barely into the month of May but Samsung isn’t wasting any time in bringing the latest Android and Galaxy-exclusive security fixes to as many of its phones as possible. A couple of the company’s flagships and mid-range phones have been updated with the May security patch already, and another one is now joining the fray.

The Galaxy Fold is being updated with the latest security patch, with the initial release starting with France and no doubt set to expand to more markets before the week is over. The new firmware version is F900FXXU5EUD7, and it includes more than just security enhancements.

The May security patch’s presence on Galaxy devices continues to expand

The update improves the performance of the camera, but the changelog doesn’t say if some of the Galaxy S21 camera features (such as the ability to use the ultrawide camera in Pro and Pro Video modes) that hit the Galaxy Z Fold 2 and other Galaxy flagships recently are included in the package. Quick Share, Samsung’s intuitive data sharing feature, is getting improvements as well.

Quick Share was recently introduced to Microsoft Windows with Samsung’s latest laptops, though improvements to the feature on Galaxy phones and tablets don’t seem to have anything to do with its debut on the desktop. The only thing that changes is that Quick Share can now be accessed from the Advanced features section of the device settings instead of just the notification shade.

As usual, the latest update can be downloaded over the air by going into the device’s Settings app, selecting Software update, and hitting the Download and install option. The new firmware is also available in our archive for those interested in skipping the queue and installing the update on their Galaxy Fold right away.
