Samsung to reportedly make 800,000 Galaxy Z Fold 2 units this year

Samsung recently launched the Galaxy Z Fold 2. The new device feels brings various improvements over its predecessor, the Galaxy Fold. The new phone has a much larger cover display, an inner screen with a higher refresh rate, better screen protection, improved cameras, and a more sophisticated folding mechanism. With so many improvements in place, the company is hoping to sell more Galaxy Z Fold 2 units than it did with the Galaxy Fold.

According to a new report from South Korea, Samsung is expected to manufacture 700,000 to 800,000 units of the Galaxy Z Fold 2. The company is manufacturing them at its smartphone factories in Brazil, South Korea, and Vietnam. An industry insider explained that Samsung manufacturing its foldable phone outside of its home country shows that it has managed to the yield of its manufacturing process. The company is now reportedly trying to cut manufacturing costs.

Analysts expect that Samsung could sell as many as three million foldable smartphones this year, thanks to its diversified portfolio that includes the Galaxy Z Flip. Next year, the sales of foldable phones could reach as high as eight million. The company is rumored to be preparing cheaper-priced foldable smartphones for near the future.

Although Huawei, Microsoft, and Motorola have launched foldable smartphones as well, Samsung appears to be in a better position from a technological standpoint. Due to its upper hand, the South Korean tech giant is expected to be in the leading position in the foldable segment for quite an amount of time.
