The Galaxy M31 has gotten an incremental hardware update in the form of the newly-announced Galaxy M31s. Samsung took the veil off the Galaxy M31s refresh today and it’s quite an exciting low-to-mid-range phone that improves upon the existing formula in a handful of ways. Let’s take a closer look at how the Galaxy M31s and Galaxy M31 compare.
First, let’s touch on the exterior design. Unlike the Galaxy M31 and its 6.4-inch Infinity-U display, the Galaxy M31s features a 6.5-inch Super AMOLED panel with an Infinity-O design boasting a centered selfie cutout. You’ll notice a couple of other design differences on the back panel, such as the new L-shaped camera setup for the Galaxy M31s and the fact that the phone lacks a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor. This is because it’s been moved to the side.
New ultra-wide camera, more storage, faster charging
The position of the quad cameras is not the only thing that’s been changed for the newer model. The Galaxy M31s retains a 64MP main shooter along with 5MP depth and macro cameras, however, it replaces the 8MP ultra-wide sensor with a 12MP one. It still has a 32MP selfie sensor capable of 4K video recording.
Regarding internal specifications, the Galaxy M31 and Galaxy M31s share a few components but the newer model is not a carbon copy of the original device. It does have the same Exynos 9611 SoC paired with 6GB or 8GB of RAM, but also carries 128GB of built-in storage as standard. More importantly, the Galaxy M31s relies on a 6,000mAh battery, same as the Galaxy M31, but introduces 25W fast charging to the budget lineup.
