The unlocked Galaxy S8, Galaxy S8+, and Galaxy Note 8 are now receiving a new software update in the United States featuring the October 2019 security patch. The changelog doesn’t mention any additional features and/or changes.
The latest software packages for the unlocked Galaxy S8, S8+, and Galaxy Note 8 are identified by build numbers G950U1UES6DSJ1, G955U1UES6DSJ1, and N950U1UES6DSI3, respectively.
October 2019 security patch has landed, but no new features mentioned
Samsung detailed the October 2019 security patch a couple of weeks ago and, as usual, the package aims to fix a number of security vulnerabilities, 17 of which are Samsung Vulnerabilities and Exposure (SVE) items. However, the update doesn’t seem to include fixes for the critical Android OS vulnerability that’s been reported to target a few Galaxy devices, including the Galaxy S8 series. These issues are likely to be addressed with the November 2019 security patch instead.
As usual, the update should be accompanied by a notification that users can tap to download and install the latest software version to their phones. Alternatively, you can click the following links and check our firmware pages for the unlocked Galaxy S8, Galaxy S8+, and Galaxy Note 8 in the US. You can download the firmware manually and install it on your phone using your computer.
