A number of Galaxy devices are receiving an update with the May 2019 security patch in various parts of the world. These devices include the Galaxy J7 Duo, Galaxy J5 Pro, Galaxy Note Fan Edition, and the Galaxy Tab Active 2, and the updates seem to be basic ones with only security fixes. That means that other than the Galaxy Note Fan Edition, no device is getting the Android Pie update.
However, security updates are important as well, and these devices have fixes for the most recent security flaws discovered in the Android operating system and Samsung’s own software. The May patch fixes seven critical and dozens of high and moderate risk Android OS vulnerabilities, along with 21 vulnerabilities of varying severities that only affect Galaxy devices. Samsung details these critical vulnerabilities on its security website for those who are interested in the specifics.
If you own any of the devices mentioned above, you can check if the update is available for you by going into the Settings app, tapping Software update, then selecting the Download updates manually option (on Android Pie, this is called Download and install). No update for your device yet? You can skip the queue and download the firmware for the new update for your country from our database and upgrade using a Windows PC.
