Samsung has already confirmed that the Galaxy S10 5G will be released on April 5. This will make it the first smartphone in the world to be compatible with the next-generation network standard. Carriers in South Korea will be launching their commercial mobile 5G networks on April 5.
5G will allow for significantly faster mobile data speeds. However, South Korea’s SK Telecom is doing some incredible things which would allow the Galaxy S10 5G to achieve speeds of up to 4Gbps. That’s unheard of for wired gigabit connections, let alone mobile connections.
Triple Aggregation helps achieve speeds of up to 4Gbps
SK Telecom recently said that it had successfully tested its 5G-LTE aggregation technology for Samsung’s 5G Galaxy S10. It hit a peak speed of 2.7Gbps by combining 5G and LTE bandwidth. That much speed will let users download a 2GB HD movie in six seconds. Galaxy S10 5G customers will initially get 2.6Gbps speeds as SK Telecom will increase it to 2.7Gbps in the second half of this year.
The carrier today revealed that it has successfully tested Triple Aggregation for the device. This uses 5G, LTE and Wi-Fi for data transmission at the same time on the Galaxy S10 5G. Triple Aggregation has been verified for this device on SK Telecom’s commercial 5G network which means it will be available to customers. This will enable speeds of up to 4Gbps on the Galaxy S10 in areas where the three networks are simultaneously deployed. That’s just mind-boggling. It’s enough to download a 2GB HD movie in four seconds.
The carrier also announced today that it has completed key tests of its 5G network on the Galaxy S10 5G. This is to ensure that there are no issues with the network when it goes live on April 5. SK Telecom expects the launch to be smooth on that day. It will also be conducting a delivery inspection for the Galaxy S10 5G in factories this week. This is to ensure that the Galaxy S10 5G launch goes off without any issues on April 5.
