Touting its green credentials, Samsung today revealed that the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ have received a top-level certification after an environmental evaluation was conducted in the United States.
Samsung’s 2017 flagships have received the Gold rating from the Electronic Product Environmental Assessment Tool (EPEAT), approved by the Green Electronics Council and Underwriters Laboratories.
This is the first time that a smartphone has received an EPEAT certificate so it’s a significant achievement for the company. Things have certainly come a long way from the time when Greenpeace called on Samsung to limit the environmental fallout from the Galaxy Note 7 fiasco.
The evaluation takes into account multiple environmental aspects of products under review, including the use of toxic materials, energy efficiency and the social contributions made by the manufacturers.
According to Samsung, the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ were highly regarded for their power efficiency and the fact that recycled materials have been used for earphone cases.
Samsung says that the Galaxy S8 doesn’t just stand out because of its stellar performance but also because of the company’s efforts to develop and promote environmental-friendly products. The company promises to continue its efforts to minimize the impact of its activities on the environment.
