Samsung and Lonely Planet bring new travel app and watchfaces to the Gear S3

The Gear S3 is Samsung’s latest dive into the smartwatch market, and it is already seeing more splash than any smartwatch Samsung has released before it. Samsung just released a speedometer app for the Gear S3 earlier this week, and Here has now released its Here WeGo navigation app for the wrist wearable. Now, to add to the app-adding party, Samsung and Lonely Planet are bringing Lonely Planet’s Travel app, travel guides, and four new travel-themed watch faces to the Korean giant’s latest wearable.

The new Lonely Planet travel app, watch faces, and guides will allow customers to find new places to pursue from their current location as well as travel tips to enhance their various journeys. Lonely Planet says that the Gear S3 app will work in companionship with the Lonely Planet Guides mobile app that lets users access travel resources for 50 cities worldwide.

Users can bookmark destinations or access directions to a place of interest. The Galaxy S7 and Gear 360 will also be leveraged to provide a more immersive experience for users of Lonely Planet’s travel app and guides. Additionally, four new watch faces will provide a world clock, weather information, and destination details, exclusive goods that only Lonely Planet’s watch faces will provide.

Samsung continues to show its ability to ramp up apps and generate a larger app store for its Tizen-powered wrist wearables. On top of these two apps that are now available for the Gear S3, Spotify intends to bring an official app with offline music playback to the wrist wearable this month.
